Juror in Contempt After Friending Defendant

August 31, 2011

I’ve been on hiatus for a long time, but you may remember a while back when I posted about why jurors should not post to Facebook about trials. Jurors keep finding ways to one up themselves.

This week, a juror in a civil case tried to friend the defendant in the same trial. Of course, the court was notified. The juror later pleaded guilty to contempt. (Via Mashable).

Lesson: If you are a juror, don’t friend, follow, or connect to parties, witnesses, fellow jurors, or the judge. It’s complicated and messy.
